Em‑eukal has been impressing customers with its unique secret recipes for more than 90 years.

Without love, Em‑eukal might not exist at all. This is because pharmacist and medical officer Dr. Carl August Otto Soldan, born in Munich in 1871, actually moved to Fürth in Middle Franconia to be with the love of his life Marianne Luise Wilhelmine Hornschuch. He opened his own dispensing chemist's shop in nearby Nuremberg in 1899 and it was here that he established the family business Dr. C. SOLDAN.

Dr. Carl Soldan was a vivacious personality, full of passion and ideas, well-known for his wit – and he not only impressed his young wife but also his customers with his ever creative and visionary spirit. Children were particularly taken with him and listened intently to his stories. They were especially happy when he handed out some of his self-made herbal drops. There was always something new to try in Dr. Carl Soldan's dispensing chemist's. It was his heart's desire to always try and do something that would contribute to people's well-being. This was why he started developing one new product after another, for example: pectoral tea, ribwort juice, juniper extract, antifreeze soap, cod liver oil – and of course, a variety of herbal drop recipes.

The local children were naturally mainly interested in the herbal drops. They came into his shop every week and asked if he had any sweets for them. One of the children was Gustav, a nice young lad, who always looked a little pale because he was prone to coughs and colds. It was for him that Dr. Carl Soldan made the first herbal drop from menthol and eucalyptus at the beginning of the 20th century. And even if it was a little bit strong for the young lad who was ten years old at the time, it tasted delicious and did him good.

This was the start of the Em‑eukal era in 1923. And here's another secret: the first Em‑eukal herbal drop recipe also gave the brand its name. Em stands for menthol and eukal for eucalyptus. The trademark was officially registered in 1925.

Today, there is an impressive range of different varieties from strong Em‑eukal eucalyptus to herbal-fresh Em‑eukal Salvia through to refreshing Em‑eukal Lemon and fruity Em‑eukal Ginger-Orange, from sugar-containing to sugar-free varieties. Em‑eukal chewable Gumdrops have also been available since 2014 and in the form of "Em-Eukal Frische Pastillen" since 2018. All in tried and tested Dr. C. SOLDAN premium quality.
